In most cases, nominating cups are interrupted by one weekend. That time World Cup in Lenzing is organized. And in most cases our Czech cups are interrupted by two competitions. It happened this year too. After first cup in Meziboří we participated the second one right one week after. As usual - in north Moravia. Luckily Jihlava is in the middle of republic so no big deal with travel. Other teams have to spend at almost whole least one weekend on highways while traveling to the place and back again.
This year the Silesian Cup was not placed to Frýdek-Místek but really to Silesian area - Šilheřovice. After a long time we got abroad again while driving to Šilheřovice through polish village Chalupki. That time we changed our strategy and slept closed to that place for being more rested. It is not easy to cast when you go sleep at 23:00 and wake up at 3:00, especially for young categories. Own experience could confirm that.
We got 1st and 4th places at first cup so great entrée to the Czech cup. We hoped we could get similar results in Šilheřovice but we knew the our rivals were growing too. We had Jarda and Jarda plus Matěj of Kroměříž against us. The great fight was ready to start.
Although cup managers were checking weather conditions about a week ago, they were not lucky. Wind was playing strange game with everyone and did not want to cooperate. Who had a problem with wind in Meziboří was talking about how easy it was there in comparation to the second cup. This time it was really hard. Wind did show us who is really good or who is incredibly lucky.
So this time we choose different style of report.
Fly skish was prepared with wind from right. Luckily most of the court was behind buildings so wind was not so bad. First competitors could cast without any big problems. Even Karel did cast well, only once the fly touched the target from side and it was not because of the wind. Much harder it was for Tomáš. The wind strength was increasing and Tomáš missed three times. But it was his best result at the event this year. Since third caster wind got much power and it was quite hard for the young casters.
Thanks to similar conditions during Jihlava trainings Zuzka as the only lady could gain 100 points. Only 3 men and 2 boys were able to gain it too.
Vojta probably finally understand the casting technique. Most cast were perfect, only the wind moved the line aside the targets. But only 4 missed targets is his best result of this year. Adam had the same problems. One zero he got just because he tried to cast to 5th target and the line touched 4th one. But he handled the event too and missed only 3 times so 80 points as well as Vojta.
Other young boys had also big problems with the wind, Honza of Chropyně or Jarda of Pelhřimov hardly fought and got less points than boys from Jihlava. Jarda of Bohumín and Matěj of Kroměříž did lead with 5 points more.
Arenberg. Disaster. Yes, they wrote there could be some wind gust some times. But this looked like sometimes the wind got weaker, and mostly the gust took about an hour. Even on first stage with underhand cast the plug was able to move to left out of the cloth. Adult casters did remind last world championship in Hungary. Karel when started pushed his clocks because he know this would be long way. And yes - it took one minute until he left first stage. When he finished the last cast he had only 20 second of 5 minutes of time limit. Got 94 points, only two other men had 2 points more. Tomáš had never competed in wind like this and so the result was not good. Zuzka showed her great accuracy abilities and lost only 4 points.
Similar wind conditions during trainings of Jihlava were advantage for us. Vojta was able to cast the most points of all boys-15 years. Bud Matěj of Kroměříž had only 2 point less so he had still 3 points more than Vojta. Adam fought for each point but had 4 points less than Matěj. Those 3 guys were the only boys-15 that were able to get over 70 points.
So after two events Matěj was leader, Vojta just behind him, very close the Jarda of Bohumín was.
Spinning skish. Oh my gosh, no one could really believe that it would be so hard even the wind would go the only one direction. The only casters having some luck we casting at court 7 and 8, there was some hedge so wind was not so strong. But Karel was casting in open area so just started time on his watches and was checking the time. In some cases he waited a minute for one cast, another time he felt weak wind and had 4 casts in a line until another strong wind came. Luckily there was only one miss. Only one caster had more points and one caster had same result as Karel had. The just casted at the court with hedge in their back. Tomáš was not so lucky and missed 8 times. Zuzka missed 3 times. Only two cadet ladies had more, at women category Zuzka had 30 points more than other ladies in that category.
Adam was also at the courts with hedge and that helped him get fantastic 85 points that was 15 points more than the second best caster, Matěj. Vojta and Jarda of Bohumín had the same result, 65 points. So Adam became a new leader, Matěj had 6 points less, Vojta 14 points and Jarda of Bohumín 23 points less. Jarda of Pelhřimov had unhappy 54 points less.
And this was over of uncomfortable target events. Only distance events remained but they finally were uncomfortable too.
Later, the wind was stabilized and blew in one direction, from right side to left, sometimes vertically. Men were able to cast in it somehow but almost only the men in first round. Like Karel that had the second best result at fly distance. Most of men able to reach over 110 points was casting in the same round like Karel. Then wind start joking. Other categories like boys and girls were really suffering. Some caster remembered similar situation during third cup in České Budějovice 2019 where wind turned its direction after 4 round of men casted and other categories had to deal with headwind. Tomáš had nice casts very close to 50 meters. Finally only 2 points Tom missed to reach 100 points. Zuzka had the best casting technique we had ever seen and got over 40 meters and made her leading bigger by 39 points.
In one moment wind wend from back. Jarda of Bohumín used it perfectly and got great 84 points. Vojta cought the wind only for a while and the end and Adam for a while at the beginning. Then it was hard. Jarda erased 13 points from Vojta's' lead and 23 points from Adam's lead. After 4 events Adam was still at 1st place, but Jarda was missing only 0,03 points. Vojta was third missing 4 points and Matěj was fourth missing 15 points.
Salmon was the next event. Court was rebuilt so wind blew from left and sometimes from back. Jihlava guys were bad there, they lost a lot of points. Karel lost 20 points, Tomáš over 50 points. But Tomáš made his new record at salmon, his best cast was 13 meters longer than his best cast before. So it was great comparing it that way. When we saw the problems of men when casting salmon, we decided not to let boys cast it.
Spinning distance was at the same court like salmon. Best casts were in the first round, then wind was not so strong. Karel made the event interesting for himself. First cast quite good but a meter out of line. After getting his line out of metal fence he made the cast higher and the plug fell to garden of some people behind wind road between court and the garden. The third cast luckily fell into court so Karel had some points. Tomas also fought with the wind and finally got his cast into the court. And Zuzka? Her first cast was the best of her casts, longer than other ladies or Karel and Tomáš had.
Adam tried to watch Jarda. He had 57 meters and Jarda "only" 55 meters, so it was good so far. But Vojta had more, he had cast over 60 meters. And then the wind was weak and it was hard to cast more. When someone really used a big power, mostly the cast went out of the court. So the best distances were not overcasted. That three boys had the best casts.
We let boys to cast 18g event. But Vojta missed the court three times. Casting to much to the right border and wind took the plug out. It happened to Adam during first cast, the second was inside the court. He was so tired that he did not cast the last one. Mostly men did cast to left side of court event they knew the casts would be smaller. So no one got over 95 meters. Only 4 men got over 90 meters. no one was from Jihlava.
Finally counted.
Ultrathrilling competition of boys was won by Vojta of Jihlava and very closed on 2nd place we had Adam of Jihlava. Jarda of Bohumín was at third place. Difference between 1st and 3rd casters was only 5 points. Jihlava had double for first and second place.
Women category was won by Zuzka of Ostrava, having a lot of points above the 2nd place. She had second win in a row in Czech cup.
Exceptional situation for Karel that got a cup for 2nd place in men pentathlon although he expected similar position like in heptathlon where he was fifth. Tomáš showed us his progress that time. It would be much better if there would be better wind. But this is why we are participating the competitions - we need to learn how to fight with all types on weather conditions.
We do not want to forget our "serviceman" Jirka, that cannot cast so far but he was great as our assistant. Now we have two week break and then we will have the last cup. It will be interesting too.
