In 2021 covid situation allowed world castingsport championship organization so caster from various countries came to Hungarian capital Budapest. On Tuesday 31st August Czech team moved there too. Within the team three guys from Moravian-Silesian district came too.
There were two casters, Zuzana Plachá from Ostrava city and Jan Bombera junior from Litovel town. Also Jan Bombera, one of the greatest Czech casters, was with the team. Because of his hand injury he was there "only" as service guy and team manager.
All member of Czech team got Czech national t-shirts with Japan flag and moved to Budaörs, with small break at Farkashegyi aerodrome where the sport court was placed. That day strong wind was around the aerodrome and got hint that next days it would be almost the same wind situation there.
From north of Moravia another guy also came. It was a caster Patrik Volný, that came to help with court preparation and judgment during the whole time of championship.
At free time when he was not requested for help, Patrik did not hesitate and tried several local special things, like Corona beer that he seemed to be quite good.
Just the first casting day (Thursday) only accuracy events were prepared. Fly skish, spinning arenberg and spinning skish. The condition was hard almost because of the wind blowing from left and sometimes there came a gust that even plug flying to arenberg move fast to right and caster missed.
That was why Jan Bombera was very happy when his son did hit all targets on the first event. Unfortunately he placed 6th position in final. On the contrary, Zuzana was lucky to get to final but fought there gained silver there.
Next event got worse. Jan got 18th position in arenberg, Zuzana was in final round again and gained "only" bronze medal. Last event was better for Jan, he was on 10th place. Zuzana gained next bronze medal.
The second day of championship was followed by the last accuracy event - multiplier skish - and fly distance events. Jan got to the final as 3rd of ranking and gained silver medals. His first medal from adult championship. The interesting is that it was the same medal and from the same event his father gained as his first medal (Szamotuly, 2014). Zuzana got to the final from 1st position but at finale it was worse. She gained bronze medal.
The worst event of Jan was fly distance single handed. He was the worst from whole team in the rank of event. Even Zuzana wasn't much better, although her best result in whole season, she did not get into final round. She needed 17 centimeters more.
Last event of the day was not casted by ladies. Jan was on 17th place in fly distance double handed. That meant that duo from Moravian-Silesian district got 2 another medals for Czech team.
Thanks to great man Gábor all four people from Moravian-Silesian district were in the air. They got the opportunity to fly above the capital city with great view of Donau river and all of them really enjoined that.
Some of them did feel great, some of them did not in one moment. The pilot offered an opportunity to feel "zero gravitation". Zuzana was very happy, Patrik had some problem with his stomach... But after landing all were very thankful for the experience.
Only spinning distance events were prepared for the last casting day. First one only for men - spinning distance double handed. Well, the best Czech casters of this event stayed home. That was why we could see all Czech caster below in the ranking. 16 years old Jan was the best Czech caster at this event, he was at 17th place.
Next event, multiplier distance, was prepared for both categories. Jan got 25th place, as 4th man of Czech team. But Zuzana got to final from 1st position. At final round she had the longest cast and won his favorite event for her first time. She became world champion for first time.
The last event was spinning distance single handed. Not enough far cast for Jan, he got 30th place, 4th from Czech team. Zuzana got 8th place and for second time she did not get to final.
How about multithlons? Jan Bombera got 11th place in pentathlon, 4th from Czech team. He also got 8th place in heptathlon, even 3rd from Czech team. And in all-round he got 6th place. Only casters like Nagel, Mézsáros or Kuza were better than him. He did not compete in team part.
Zuzana gained bronze medal for 3rd place in pentathlon. But in ladies all-round she became world champion! She was also in team competition, the Czech team won.
So great performance of Moravian-Silesian casters. Jan Bombera as 16 years old boy gained his first medal. Last time Czech 16 year old boy gained medal was 7 years ago (Szamotuly 2014). But we would not probably find another Czech boy being at 6th place in all-round ranking.
Whole spring and summer preparation of Zuzana had its effect. Her maximum amount of medals from one championship increased by two. There were only two event she did not get to final. In all final round she gained medal. Furthermore he gained two golds and just in her most favorite events - multiplier distance and heptathlon.
And Patrik? At first, nobody planned his arrival. But then he arrived and he became very important like service man and judge. It was really fantastic action and we will remember it for a long time.
