If anything moves a caster to the top, it is definitely intense training. One of the best training sessions held in Czechia is organized by Casting of Moravian-Silesian district of Czech Angling Union. Sounds like repeating except for the end. But it is true.
It has been a time when double team Břeťa-Jura found calm sunken place providing everything - accommodation, food, large field and salmon river aside the field. What to wish more. They tried to organize a camp for young talented casters but after transferring it to another place Moravian-Silesian training camps remained there. And not only Moravian-Silesian casters participate, new and new caster boys and girls from other districts are coming there for training.
And this year about 40 casters met at the field and helped prepare the courts during Wednesday afternoon. Organizers obtained group permission for fishing so there were moments when people could not make a step in the water as so many fisher were in the river with fly and spinning rods.
Just right after end of last year camp in Zálužné Petr started sparing his money for this year camp participation. Stories about training, fishing and grouping made him so excited that he was looking forward that action and almost was not talking about anything else.
Well... only Petr could not participated. Unfortunately something with higher priority came to his life. Sometimes it happens that a boy is looking forward to something and finally he cannot go there... Life is a never-ending fight.
Other boys could go. Honza and Vojta for first time, Adam for second time. And Jirka and Karel went there too. And also Zuzka could not be missing. She and Lucka needed to prepare for world championship in Estonia and what place would be better than Zálužné where You can train before breakfast, after breakfast, before lunch, after lunch, before dinner, after dinner, ... and time to time You can also a train a little. Yes, the intensity of training of some casters was incredible.
All children slept in small cottages, split by their age or team membership. So there was a junior cottage, girls cottage, Bohumín cottage, Jihlava cottage, young men cottage, old men cottage, trainers cottage. Trainings groups were grouped the different way. For example Matěj of Kroměříž and Zuzana joined the Jihlava team.
The place was prepared perfectly, again. Each target event had four starts, fly distance had four starts as well. Place was divided into two halves and in each half there were three trainers with their groups. During morning everyone could cast whole pentathlon training, during afternoon the second pentathlon training. Two days in a row.
Team of Jihlava started training at the point team ended it at Bransouze. Training method was the same but with with higher intensity, just like the other groups. Right on the second day we saw that intensity of training in Bransouze almost destroyed the boys as they seemed to be tired. For both days trainer took care about the casting technique especially on fly skish and both distances.
Lot of people was fishing when no training was planned and our boys went fishing too. Also the adult boys. Also Zuzana. The "Carnivorous fish catching" competition was not finished yet. We thought not only Karel and Zuzana but also Honza had permission for fishing there but no - Honza had only permission for west Bohemia. Useless in Zálužné. So he could fish only with the group permission, just like other guys. When the permission was outside the areal, no one could fish, except for those with own permission.
It was not about fishing, if we talk about girls and boys. It was about spending the free time together. What You wanna catch if someone hacks the fly to the branch and goes to the tree release the fly, walking through the water and place where the fish were. Of course there weren't there anymore... But fish were active anyway. For example Markéta fly fishing for her first time had a bite... that she did not see as she was looking anywhere but the fly line. Yes, and this was the group fishing all about. Almost every day. Of course, older guys took it more serious so there were more successful. For last a few days national trainer of youth went fishing too.
Previous years action had been since Sunday to next Sunday. This year it was from Wednesday. So after two days the Saturday came and a competition with it.
Adam had had average target loss 63 point between April and July. After first training camp in Štoky he had 38 points of target loss, after Bransouze even only 37 points. And at Zálužné he did 85-94-95 and had fantastic 26 points of target loss. Only adult casters and three juniors were better. A pity that calm weather supported on target event but not supported on distance events. And at them Adam did not succeed. Well, did not succeed comparing with other competitions. Even with no wind support he got over 430 points. With that he won his category of boys U12. He would be at 3rd place in boys U15.
Similar target loss during spring competitions had Vojta too - 64 points. With higher amount of competitions the target loss was better and better. At Czech Open in České Budějovice in was only 29 points. At Zálužné it was 40, so worse result. But almost average result at all events unlike the Jarda of Bohumín that had problem at spinning skish. During fly distance Jarda had more than Vojta but just an half of point. In the same weather conditions Vojta had similar casts. At spinning distance Jarda had amazing cast very close to 100 points. Vojta had almost 7 meters less. The last cast was the best. Very long. Unfortunately half a meter outside the court. But anyway Vojta had still 4.5 point more in pentathlon than Jarda.
Best target improvement we saw in performance of Honza. His average spring target loss was about 109 points. Almost no improvement during season. When it looked like better result, next competition was disaster. But Bransouze and first days in Zálužné helped a lot. Especially Zálužné gave Honza a change to see casting technique from different view and so Honza had average 20 points of target loss per event. Overall 60 points is great for a boy casting his 2nd year. Worse distance results but anyway it was his second best pentathlon and only 3 points behind Matěj of Kroměříž.
General test for Zuzana was not perfect. Fly skish and spinning distance were great but spinning distance was worse, comparing other results of spring season. That caused Zuzana missing the 1st place in pentathlon. Both ladies - Lucka and Zuzana - seemed to be ready for world championship and we are excited what they will show us in Estonia.
Karel was experimenting in style "I wanna just enjoy the show". So fly skish "with no hurry" for 57 seconds with 95 points. Then 8 points two times at arenberg. Result saved by 100 points at skish. But still 2nd place after Karel. But quite good result at fly distance. With competition with Bombik and Karel, Karel had most points. Was second best after Jirka Plachý. At spinning distance also 2nd best, right after Jaroslav of Kroměříž. In pentathlon it did mean winning for Karel. Karel was the only man not beaten by Bombera junior that fought in junior category but with his pentathlon he would be 2nd in men.
So, results of Jihlava team looked like be good. And two more days of training ahead.
Sunday time was relax time. No order for casting and almost no one did cast. Time used for fishing. And for Jihlava team too.
"Jihlava Salmon fisher" competition was going on and Vojta started it perfectly. Went with junior boys downstream from the camp where they found a lot of rainbow trout. With his special fishing style - spinning for and fly nymph he caught 15 rainbow trout and 1 river trout. Next days he was not so lucky. Twice he tried fly fishing from the shore but as low experience, he tangled the fly line around his leg. When he released the line, he hackled a fly into the grass. When released the fly, tangled the fly line around the leg again. When released the line he hackled the the fly to the reed. Positive is that Vojta is very calm and stressless. After an hour he could get the fly into the water. So far it looked the spinning rod would be his better friend. Until the time Vojta tries to fish from water and not the shore.
Honza had already experience with fly rod. His favorite technique is dry fly fishing with his hand made rokerka. Not so many changes for fishing and finally his dream came true - he caught grayling. Two graylings. And one river trout.
Adam is experienced too. Of course. He is leading the salmon competition. And in Zálužné his did his favorite technique - streaming with dry fly. It helped him to catch 11 river trout and 1 nice grayling.
Adult guys went fishing too. Jirka caught 15 river trout and 1 grayling.
Zuzana was switching the rods. One time she was fly fishing, other time she was spinning fishing. Result also differed from time to time. With spinning fishing she got mostly river trout and with spinning fishing she caught rainbow trout over 30 centimeters. ... Well, yes, she caught nothing during fly fishing. Nevermind. She had 7 river trout and 12 rainbow trout.
Karel was only nymphing. As fly fisher beginner he did not understand that what was working in the morning that was not working afternoon. Best times he had after rain in cloudy water. Many times fish released itself from hook. During his biggest desperation having four fish released during 5 minutes, even small hackled tree branches released it selves when he were taking them out of the water. No comment, really. But finally he caught 24 river trout, 8 rainbow trout and 4 grayling.
During the time of camp members of Jihlava and Zuzana caught 104 fish. Not so bad result for a team mainly focused on simple casting and having just one or two hours after afternoon break and after the dinner.
But on Monday training started again. Karel changed the strategy and gave boys free time for fly skish to help them find their own style. What was necessary to watch were so fast casts on spinning skish of Matěj, so one afternoon Karel focused just on this case. Followed by combination of boys for working on mental side of casting while large target challenge. While Honza and Matěj were focusing on casting to first targets, duo Zuzana+Vojta and Karel+Adam had a competition in cumulative casting one by one to get 15 hits on each target in a row together. When Karel and Adam were able to get them selves up to 4th target, Zuzana and Vojta got to fifth target hitting it twice.
Next activity was Super Arenberg and Super Skish. At arenberg, only Karel and Zuzana were able to finish each event in 15 minutes. Something else than 10 points Adam had 5 times, Vojta and Honza for 7 times and Matěj for 10 times. At skish it was better, not only Zuzana and Karel finished the event. Also Vojta and Matěj finished it. During second round of skish Adam did it too. Vojta was able to finish harder level.
The last thing had to be dealt with. Boys where divided into two groups. One group casting, second group judging. Emotions squirting around based on angry and unfair judging of the first or second group when switching. It is obvious that caster see hit of target 18 meters in front of him much better than can bee seen by judge staying a meter close to the target. When all were angry the most, Karel split the groups so each of the first group had to cooperate with the each of the second group. Emotions did calm down a little.
But finally it came. Third round of casting of Adam and Vojta, Honza and Matěj said zero for a cast that from their point of view hit the ground first and then it hit the edge of target. From point of view of Adam and Vojta the plug hit the edge first. With full of angry based on unfair zero that added another 4 zero hits and destroyed any change for winning. And were bitched out by Karel that absolutely expected this situation. This can happen but it must not happen. But then everyone did calm down and could fight at fly skish. Karel got nervous a little bit as he saw Honza casting Kroměříž technique learned from Matěj. Improved result but potential problem.
And that was over. All helped with clearing the place, took targets, tables and then they got free time for anything. Plašan was satisfied with work of all children and allowed later time to bed.
Some children left the camp just in Tuesday, some one stayed for a night and spent last hours together close the fire or in the dark of camp. In the morning all met at breakfast for last time and then moved to their homes.
It was also the end of summer time of camps. Trainers will have some time for rest. Most of them spent 3 or 4 weeks with children during July and August so the deserve the time for rest. If their support really helped the children, we will see during following weeks. Just next Saturday there will be a children cup and then league competitions. Let's see...
