ICF prepared the first world championship in 1957. Since that another 16 world championships were prepared just for ICF casters and 1 world championship was prepared in cooperation with CIPS (in 1970). The last ICF world championship was prepared in Oslo, Norway 1977. Later the world championships were always together with FCS (CIPS).
Aside of world championship there also was European championship at the same time. First European championship came in 1957 and later another 12 EC came. How it looked like? WC results were taken and all casters out of Europe were deleted. No special competition, it was done just this way. One exception came in 1969 (Stockholm, Sweden), this was European championship. No world championship in 1969.
Getting points for event was different and based on results it is really hard to get exact results for each event. Like Fly skish - mostly 100 points was maximum of event but caster could reach 97 points. But for multithlons the best caster was getting 1 500 point as we can see in 1973 (Scarborough, UK). Second and other caster got lower amount of points.
In Stockholm (Sweden, 1969) we can see events pointing that was presented next year in Kalmar (Sweden, 1970). ICF and CIPS made a deal and confirmed common rules for both organizations. So CIPS firstly met multiplier events of fly combination. But yet, we can see separate ICF world championship with old pointing and events. Change came in 1976 (St. Louis, USA), events and pointing was same as defined by common rules.
ICF was specific with casting to water. Targets on water, court on water, caster on mole about the water.
We can imagine the casting thanks to following video from 1964:

World Championship 1957
So the beginning. 75 casters of 10 nations came.
Europe plus USA and Canada.
10 event and 4 multithlons for men prepared.
Ladies were casting 5 events, no multithlon recorded. Results are strange, Jon Tarantino got more points in fly combination than in fly all-round.
On the other side - thanks a lot for some results :) Ranking should be correct.
United states were best in amount of medals, three best medalists were Americans too. Jon Tarantino got 8 medals, 6 of them were gold.
World Championship 1958
Second World Championship. 70 casters of 13 nations came.
Europe plus USA and Canada
8 events for men, no multithlon recorded.
Ladies had 5 events without multithlon.
Result points in different style than previous WC.
Spinning distance with 10.63g plug and fly skish were events with most casters.
Again some problems with archived results. American man Ben Fontaine can be also found in ladies category. Better not counting medals found in events of ladies. Not so clear winning of USA like year before. Sweden got same amount of medals. Most medals won by Jon Tarantino and Rune Fredriksson, both got 3 medals. Rune got more gold medals.
World Championship 1959
Third World Championship. 43 casters of 10 nations came. No ladies. The smallest participation yet.
Europe and USA only.
Again 10 events, all-round and 3 other multitlons.
Fly combination had different counting, first place got 1 500 points.
Big fight between USA and Sweden, again. United States won with 5 medals more. But Rune Fredriksson from Sweden was the best caster, got 8 medals.
World Championship 1960
Fourth World Championship. 66 casters of 13 nations came. No ladies.
Europe and USA only.
Again 10 events, no all-round, but 6 multitlons.
Fly combination and salmon (fly distance double handed) had different counting, first place got 1 500 points.
Clear winning of United States. Got 11 gold and 11 silver medals, 19 more than Sweden. First medal for Finland. Jon Tarantino won with 13 medals, 4 golds in single events and 3 golds in multithlons. Surprise - Steve Aleshi with 3 golds and 6 medals.
World Championship 1961
Fifth World Championship. 102 casters of 14 nations came. No ladies.
The biggest participation so far. But not everyone casted all events.
Europe and USA only.
10 events and 10 specific multithlons.
The only world championship where one caster could win 20 medals from one champ.
Fly combination in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Most people casted spinning distance with 10.5g plug (58 participants).
Big fight between USA and Sweden, United States won with one bronze medal more. Third Norway got 9 medals less. First medal for France and Great Britain. Big fight between Jon Tarantino and Rune Fredriksson, Jon as winner with 16 medals, Rune got 4 medals got. Both were on 3rd place in fly skish.
World Championship 1962
Sixth World Championship. 99 casters 13 nations came. No ladies
Second biggest participation. We can see more than 60 men casting in 6 of 10 events.
Europe and USA only.
10 events and 4 multithlons almost like in 1959.
Fly combination in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Two golds in one event - multiplier skish.
Big fight between USA and Sweden. United States got 1 medal more overall, Sweden got 5 golds more.
Similar fight between Jon Tarantino and Sverre Scheen. Same amount of medals, Jon got 2 golds more.
Uncommonly, Rune Fredriksson without a medal.
World Championship 1963
Seventh World Championship. New record of participation, 107 casters of 13 nations came. No ladies.
Europe and USA only.
More than 80 casters in two events - Spinning skish (83) and spinning distance (82).
10 events, 9 multithlons. All-round missing.
Fly combination in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Two bronze medals in spinning distance.
For first time Sweden won, 2 medals more than USA.
Jon Tarantino won, Rune Fredriksson became second in medals amount.
For first time we can see another legend - Walter Kummerov. Thanks to him West Germany became first in nations rank.
Last time Jon Tarantino participated.
World Championship 1964
Eight World Championship. Decrease of participation by 20, 83 casters of 14 nations came. No ladies.
Decrease of event participation too, most caster participated plug distance (43).
Europe plus USA and New Zealand.
10 events like before plus only all-round.
Fly combination and salmon in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Sweden clearly won by 8 medals more than Germany or Finland. Rune Fredriksson was better than Walter Kummerov.
World Championship 1965
Ninth World Championship. Increase of participation, 93 casters from 14 nations came. No ladies.
Almost every event with 50 and more casters except for 4 events.
Europe plus USA only.
10 events and all-round.
Fly combination in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Dominance of Sweden, 6 medals more than Switzerland (a surprise - Switzerland was the last a year before) or Germany. Most medals gained by Zack Willson from USA even he got no gold. Most gold medals won by Kai Rosenström (Denmark) and Ulf Janson (Sweden).
World Championship 1966
Tenth World Championship. Decrease of participation, 71 caster of 13 nations came. No ladies.
At least 50 casters in 2 events, spinning distances.
Europe and USA.
10 events and all-round.
Fly combination in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Germany close to winning Sweden, only 2 medals less. Sweden got 5 golds. Zack Wilson did not come, another American - Casper Rigamer - came and won medal ranking. 4 casters got 2 gold medals.
World Championship 1967
Eleventh World Championship. Decrease again, 68 caster of 12 nations came. No ladies.
Only fly skish had 40 casters, less participation at other events.
Europe and USA.
10 events plus all-round and 3 other multithlons.
Fly combination in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Nation ranking won by Germany, got 2 medals more than Sweden although Sweden got 3 golds more.
The only caster with 3 golds - Walter Kummerov.
Another the only caster with 2 golds - Olle Söderblom.
Last participation of Rune Fredriksson.
World Championship 1968
Twelfth World Championship. Almost the same situation, 67 casters but from 15 nations. No ladies.
Europe plus USA and Australia.
Mostly 40 caster per event, the biggest participation in multiplier skish event.
We can see participation of first caster from Czechoslovakia, Šebek brothers (Petr and Miroslav).
10 events plus all-round and 8 other multithlons.
Again some problems with collecting data, two ranking of events 7+8+9+10 but with different results.
Seems that one has similar results like ranking of 1+2+5+6 so it is named this way here.
Fly combination in points again (1 500 points for winner), other distance events in meters.
Great fight, 3 nations in 2 medals difference. Sweden won, Switzerland 1 medal less, Germany another 1 medal less. Two casters with 10 medals. Walter Kummerov with 2 golds more than Peter Hässig.
European Championship 1969
So exception - Europe only. No World Championship this year.
decrease of participation, 45 caster of 8 nations came. And no ladies again and again and again...
Mostly participation of 20 casters per event. The biggest participation in spinning distance.
10 events, no multithlon recorded.
Last two events differently named. Spinning distance single handed with 17.72g and spinning distance double handed (casts about 160 meters).
Walter Kummerov did not participated.
Sweden got 3 medals more than Switzerland.
The most amount of caster with at least one medal. Only Paul Slominski had gold silver and bronze medals together.
Only Peter Hässig got 2 golds, 3 medals together.
World Championship 1970 - 1972
In 1970 two new things came. At first, both organization tried to make a deal with having competition together.
At second, new rules came. Here there was an attempt to cast by them and reach the feedback for further evaluation.
For CIPS caster casting to water was strange.
We can see pentathlon for first, we can see event that we meet till 1992. As well as octathlon and all-round consist of 11 events.
Fly combination counted as we know it from later years.
We will be talking about this WC later.
WC in 1971 there is only world championship of CIPS. We are missing casters from USA but we can see casters from West Germany that were on WC of ICF.
WC in 1972 again only world championship of CIPS, we can see organization FCS, a casting federation under CIPS. We do not see USA casters but we can see caster from Republic of South Africa for first.
World Championship 1973
Although there were common rules for ICF and FCS, world championship of ICF this year was following old rules of ICF.
47 casters of 11 nations came. Without Switzerland. Without ladies.
First really world competition, with Europe there were casters from USA, Australia, RSA and Japan.
Mostly there was participation of 30 caster per event, most casters at spinning distance.
10 events and all-round.
Every event winner got 1 500 points, other less points based on ranking.
For first we see Steve Rajeff. For first we see John Waters.
Sweden won against Steve with 3 medals more.
Steve Rajeff got 8 medals, 5 of them were gold.
World Championship 1974
There is a question how serious this championship should be taken.
Looks like some exhibition. Even names of events is hard to find out.
30 casters from 4 nations came. Sweden - 1 caster, USA - 2 casters, Japan - 5 casters, Australia - 22 casters.
Well, ...
10 evens, without all-round. Every event winner got 1 500 points, other less points based on ranking.
Steve Rajeff won 8 of 10 events. Japan casters got 2 medals from one event together. Sweden got 2 medals. The rest was given to casters from Australia.
World Championship 1975-77
These championships were done by ICF but we can see casters being casting on FCS championships too.
Events are following new common rules. So there will be presented later.
So we can say that world championship of ICF prepared in 1974 was the last championship following old ICF rules.
