Karel Světelský is not only one of the biggest Czech casters but also one of the biggest world casters. He participated the first championship in 1981, that was European championship. We reached 22nd place there. Next year he became the first pentathlon world champion from Czechoslovakia.
For his international career, including 2 years ban, he gained 19 medals (6th place in Czechia).
He got 9 golds (4th place in Czechia), including 3 champ titles at multithlons.
His best events were fly combination, fly distance single handed and spinning distance single handed.
His average medal count for 1 participation is 1.6 that puts him to 4th place in Czech casting history.
First results we can find are from 1975 when he was getting in touch with casting through Zlatá udice competition. That year he passed to national round of competition and got to 8th place in boys under 15 years. He also participated new competition in our republic - 1st national casting championship for girls and boys under 15 year. He won his first medal there from fly skish.
On the second children championship he won his first titles on nation champion. It was at fly combination and spinning arenberg events. In pentathlon we got 2nd place finally.
In 1977 Karel became national champion in fly combination and pentathlon plus he gained silver at fly skish. Thanks to that he was chosen for casting at national championship of juniors. He got medals at same events, just different materials.
1977 was also the year Karel did cast his first 100 point event (fly skish).
In more years better results were coming. Karel became a member of national team and participated international competitions. That time it looked like he came from one competition to Prague and stayed there because two days later we moved to another competition.
Thanks to his casting results and physical ability, a required condition that time, he moved to higher part of national team group, from team "B" to team "A". Team "B" was participating international competitions, Team "A" was participating European and world championships. So Karel went to participate European championship.
Well, it was not good enough that year. Best place he gained was 8th place in spinning distance single handed (Czechoslovakia team was not casting double handed and multiplier events so far).
Then the year 1982 came. Czechoslovakia hosted world championship for second time and Czech men gained 4 gold medals. One gained by Ivan Zelenka at fly skish and three golds gained by Karel on fly distance single handed, spinning distance single handed and the most important - as first Czech caster Karel became world champion in pentathlon.
And his sister Iva was there too and gained another two silver medals. So Světelský family brought 5 medals home.
Karel participated another two years and then a ban came for two years. Later it was reduced for one year so he could participated WC in 1986 but somehow necessary paper for traveling abroad disapeared. So Karel already prepared on airport had to move back home and stayed in republic.
In 1987 Karel gained complete collection of medal types. He won his favorite fly combination, he was third in pentathlon and silver in octathlon.
In 1988 the whole team stayed in shadow of casting by only 16-years old Patrik Lexa, that participated his first world championship of men and won 4 gold medals and helped the team gain first place in team competition. Karel was second in pentathlon, he won fly combination. That meant that for rest of the world Czech casters left only one gold in events of pentathlon.
Together Karel and Patrik stayed also in octathlon, Karel was fourth and Patrik was fifth.
No Czech men caster gained more than 4 gold medals gained by Patrik ever. Even only one caster was able to win four times as Patrik. His names is Karel Světelský that did it year later in 1989 (Oslo, Norway). Karel as first Czech caster won two multithlons - pentathlon and octathlon.
The rest two medals Karel gained in his best events - fly combination and spinning distance single handed.
In 1990 Karel participated the last world championship with his great casting friend, Ivan Zelenka. So he could see Ivan becoming a world champion in pentathlon for his first and the only time (Ivan got two titles in pentathlon, the second one is from European championship from 1987). Karel could also see Ivan winning fly skish for four times. After this world championship Ivan left the national team and never came back again.
Karel participated championships for next three years and left the team too. For one time he got to team in 1999 to show he still cast against the best caster in the world. He got to final in spinning skish and did cast 100 points in final. Just because of slower time he gained silver "only" medal.
Karel Světelský became Czech national trainer of juniors. He participated the first junior world championship in 2016 and help the boys win team competition after 2015 where Czech boys team was on 2nd place.
As national trainer Karel also spend a lot of time during casting camps for talented girls and boys from whole republic. Also, lot of time he spend with preparing casters from north Moravia and Silesia.
But he is not only training others. As as big fan of the casting he is still casting in men category. Well, sometimes in only veteran category... :)
